Book Review of "Trainee to Train Controller"
As the author also calls it " a photographic account of a life on the railways in Western Australia 1992-2010".
A book of 100 pages with over 260 colour photos taken in various parts of this state and interstate covers a career with photos of operations as seen from the point of view of a professional railwayman.
This 18 year photograpic journey covers many things like Loonganna Lime sidings at Loonganna and Rawlinna, infrastucture trains on ARTC Trans line and Westrail to crew changes a lot not normally to available to non rail employees.
The imence changes to railway operations in the southern part of this state are well documented with the author not only working on one railway system but being employed by four different and diverse rail employers.
Train photos of interstate operations taken on holidays, train chasing as a railfan of normal operations and preservation, together with railway archaeology is covered with photos of abandoned bridges and facilities in various parts of state.
This book is highly recomended for anyone wishing to obtan the historical perspective of a person "who drove trains for a living and lived to drive trains" on the past 18 years of WA railway operations and of his railway employement.
Trainee to Train Controller is available at the URL below for $39.00 plus p & h is very good value.

Cris has done a great job with his book and has a great range of photos, I concur with 8888 on the Nullabor photos.

Re: New WA Railway book
A stand out in this new book is the selection of photos taken between Kalgoorlie and Cook, not a heavily covered area. There is even a shot taken on the seldom photographed Rawlinna tramway.

A new book will be available from Monday covering the past 20 or so years of the WA rail scene. Titled "Trainee to Train Controller" the book is 100 pages of full colour photos taken form Albany to Geraldton, Perth to Cook and beyond.
Go to http://web.me.com/midcon/Western_Australian_Railway_Photography/NEW_-_Book.html for more info.
Sounds good, is it one of those online books that they print up as required, or is it professionally done by a printer. is it hard or soft cover?
Hi Jaroo,
The book is professionally printed by a local firm. Soft cover A4 size. If you have a copy of Simon Barber's book "Changing before our eyes", it is based on that design / layout.
