Re: BHP Roster Update.
Since being back from my exploits to Kalgoorlie and Perth, I've not seen any new names appear on the SD70ACe fleet.
However, 4341 was marshalled with eight large fuel tankers on the 22nd June 2010 to run the Newman bound fuel train.
This is my first sighting of an ACe loco on this train as I normally see Dash 8's running it.
The service is worked to Newman as an independent service, and then worked back to Hedland attached to the rear of a loaded ore train.
And SD40 3091 was sighted as one of the yard pilots late last week.

Re: BHP Roster Update.
SD70ACe "Pumpkin" unit 4330 "Giles" spotted leading a rake through Dumper One early this morning.
That will be the last sighting for a few weeks as I'm off to Kalgoorlie and Perth.

Yes on both counts.
I need to get a couple of images of the repainted locos too!

Re: BHP Roster Update.
Thanks Toad for the updates on the namings. A couple of questions:
Are new wagons still being added to the BHP fleet?
Are the locos in the Park now fully repainted?

I wonder if they will be cast nameplates, similar to the DB and P class names. Its a pity ARG when under G&W ownership decided painted names were better then replacing the cast names. Most of the P class names ended up in enthusiasts hands after removal at Goninans during their overhauls.

Re: BHP Roster Update.
This naming business must be contagious, as ARG are going to name the AC class locos.
Re: BHP Roster Update.
Time again for a couple more named locos, but with a difference this time, a couple of images to boot!
The nameplates are stainless steel plate with the letters cut out, with a black backing placed on the loco behind the nameplate. With the "Pumpkin" units the numbers are required to be re-positioned.
Today, SD70ACe 4336 was seen at the Overhaul Shop with "Redmont" plates and 'Pumpkin' unit 4328 was seen at Car Dumper 1 with "Wikirrpa" plates.
Also the 5 stored SD40-2 units are stored behind the track machine workshop, with the other stored SD40-R units stored out on 5 and 6 roads at the Loco Service Shops.
Here's 4336 displaying "Redmont".
Here's 4334 with "Wheelara".
Here's 4328 with "Wikirrpa".
And a shot of the stored SD40-2 units.

Yeah is was 5668.
Re: BHP Roster Update.
Hi Toad
Thanks for these updates, so the SD40's on the wash road are the ones previously stored at Finucane Island by the looks of it. Will be interesting to see how long it takes to get the names on. With the -8 being rebuilt I take it that this was a blue liveried one?

Re: BHP Roster Update.
SD70ACe 'Pumpkin' loco 4331 sighted this morning with the nameplate "Withnell" at the shops.
Also all 5 SD40-2 units are there also.
A line up behind tarped 4300 is 3085, 3082, 3083, 3084 and 3092 are on the wash road.
And 3081 is coupled to the old SD40T-2 unit, along with 3090, 3086 and 3093 and 3088.
So that should mean:
SD40, units stored, 3080, 3081, 3082, 3083, 3084, 3085, 3086, 3088, 3090, 3092, 3093.
Operational units, 3078, 3079, 3087, 3089, 3091, 3094, 3095, 3096, 3097.
But I think 3093 is an ADP unit, so it maybe repaired.

Re: BHP Roster Update.
The long awaited naming process for the SD70ACe units has at last started.
Today I saw 4341 "Oroville" freshly out-shopped at Nelson Point.
This is the first unit I've seen named.
BHP have moved away from the plaque type and gone with a simple stainless steel plate with black lettering which I would guess is etch on.
The plates are mounted below the window sill and above the cabside numbers.
Also noted at the shops were 6073 and 6074, along with a number of SD40 units including at least two of the SD40-2 unts.

Re: BHP Roster Update.
I think it will be 205 million tonnes from memory.
New ore cars arrive by road from Bassendean at the rate of about 9 a week, and have been doing so for a number of years now.
I'm not sure where they are at with ore car orders.
The last ten SD70ACe locos where for RGP4. There's not been a mention yet of extras for RGP5.
Dash 8 locos are still being overhauled, saw one being put back together the other day.

Re: BHP Roster Update.
thanks toad. any idea what the capacity up there will be lifted to when the rapid growth project 5 is completed and will they be ordering new locomotives and wagons to handle the growth in capacity.
thanks,

Re: BHP Roster Update.
Wagons, now there's a good question.
They have purchased about 12 or 13 110 car rakes of the Golynx design made of 5Cr12Ti steel from Goninan over the last few years.
Also 330 cars from China to a Bradken design, these are completely smooth sided except for the car clamp pockets in the sides.
They have some Romanian built cars in the 3300 number series.
There are cars from the original Oroville build, Transfield built some and Comeng built a lot, with different body types over the years.
I'll go through what I've got as I've been working on adding the various types of cars to my site.
But have just noticed that the Rolling Stock page is faulty, with only half the info and a lot of images missing!
My guess would be 4 to 5 thousand ore cars.
Then there is the ballast set of modified Oroville cars, the Difco side dumps, the lease CFCLA ballast cars, the large and small fuel tankers, a couple of water tankers and several flat car.
And not forgetting the rail train.
