Toad, as far as I'm aware there was a large number of AOPY wagons stored in Avon Yard (not sure if still there) and there are a few down in Esperance.
Hope this helps.

Re: QR wins WA ore job
Gindalbie has announced that they have ordered the rail for their Tilley to Karara Railway (60kg/M) plus the dual wagon tipper for the Port at Geraldton.
Sinosteel Midwest are trucking ore from Koolanooka now that mining has restarted at the old mine. Access to the old mine is not now possible. Road haulage may only be used until the new Gindalbie line is built.
Mount Gibson's shed at Geraldton Port is also taking shape quickly for their Extension Hill deposit, and access roads have now commenced construction from the mine to the Perenjori loading point.

Re: QR wins WA ore job
A fair bit of activity happening with the development of this mine at Karara, should see some rail works happening over the next few months as Mt Gibson also working up its Extension Hill mine as well. This will see trains running from Perenjori.
Re: QR wins WA ore job
here is the link to the announcement on the ARG website. http://www.arg.net.au/who/news/pages/qrfreighttodeliverkararaironoreproject.aspx
RE: QR wins WA ore job
Certainly interesting times ahead. With the upcoming amalgamation of the 2 companies into 1 under the banner of QR National, could this perhaps be the start of it? Seems strange that it's parent company QR that wins the contract and not ARG.
Who knows? At least it's bringing more traffic to rail and with a bit of variety.
Could we see more 2800 class locomotives heading west (as "8888" asked) or something new.........
Maybe this is a hint as to where PA2819 is headed

Certainly not good for rail, the Narngulu plants have received a $60 million upgrade to now receive mineral sands via ship from Ceduna to Geraldton Port where its trucked to the Narngulu plants processed and trucked back to the port for export.

Re: QR wins WA ore job
It will be interesting to see if Queensland Rail do the haulage under their own branding, or use ARG equipment. If they use ARG locos, this will be the Mt Isa operations in reverse, as ARG operate trains on the Mt Isa line using QRN locos - mainly 2800 class, which is interesting in itself.
QR wins WA ore job
QUEENSLAND Rail has signed a heads of agreement to haul iron ore from
West Australian miner Gindalbie Metals's $1.8 billion Karara project.
In a deal to be formally announced today, QR will haul all iron ore
from Karara, in Western Australia's Mid West region, to Geraldton
Port.
The 10-year deal will initially be for 8 million tonnes of concentrate
and 3 million tonnes a year of direct shipping ore but has the option
to grow to the 30 million tonnes a year Gindalbie says Karara is
capable of producing.
"This is potentially one of the largest individual long-term contracts
which will be awarded for the Karara Project, with a value of several
hundreds of million dollars over the initial 10-year period,"
Gindalbie managing director Garret Dixon said.
Karara, which is a 50-50 joint venture between Gindalbie and China's
Ansteel, is expected to produce its first iron late next year, to be
ramped up to 30 million tonnes by about 2020. First ore will be
shipped out of Geraldton, but Gindalbie wants to export from the
planned Oakajee Port nearby.
QR entered Western Australia in 2006, when it bought Australian
Railroad Group from Wesfarmers, Genesee and Wyoming.
Its freight business will be part of the Queensland government's
proposed QR National float.
Separately, BC Iron is closer to mining at its Nullagine Iron Ore
joint venture with Fortescue Metals after signing an agreement with
traditional owners.
