g'day toad. the water gins are coded atwy and most of the fuel gins that go out there are coded atby but other types of fuel gins can be used out there as well. can not remember the other codes at the moment as i am on holidays but they are usually B.P. tanks.Toad Montgomery wrote:wn514 wrote:each water gin fully loaded weighs 78 tonnes and each fuel gin fully loaded weighs 82 tonnes.Admin wrote:five water tankers [if all fully loaded would be 250,000 litres of water] and five fuel tankers [for about 310,000 litres of diesel] were behind crew car on the lead of 7PA1 today to be detached at Cook.
wal.
Are the water gins still the AWTY? class, unsure of exact code, photos not handy (at work!).
I got a couple of shots of these at Cook back in 2005/6, they were yellow in colour.
Also what code are the fuel tankers these days? Still a combo of anything?

Re: Appears Cook fuel train now runs out of Forestfield
i do believe that visitors are welcome out at cook. but anyone going out there should contact gwa in adelaide to let them know what date they are going to be out there, how long they are going to be there and to see whether there is accomodation and fuel available at those times. when they arrive at cook they have to contact the local gwa employees to let them know they have arrived safely. i do stand to be corrected on this though.Admin wrote:The status of this place [actually in SA] was discussed at lenght on Railpage in South Australian Forums some months ago I belive there are only two perminant residents there who are G&W employees.Peter wrote:Just for the record In Todays 06/03/2011 Saturday's Advertizer in Adelaide .
it was noticed that GWA are advertizing for staff at Cook they want a Town Manager and assistant Town manager ...all replies to GWA in Adelaide ..
Has the town all left ????
Pacific National crews book off at Cook for their manditory rest peroid before returning to their home depot.
ARG crews running Cook fuel train call every couple of weeks or so.
I believe its a closed town with visitors unwelcome.
thanks,
wal.

Not reported yet that the Cook train departed Kalgoorlie on Thursday behind LZ3119, the consist included fuel and water tanks, and 2 OPC vans for stores.

Re: Appears Cook fuel train now runs out of Forestfield
yeah mate the opc vans have not been used for a couple of weeks now. i am not sure if they are getting their provisions out there by road or they could even be using the indian pacific as the people out at cook do.Admin wrote:wn514 wrote:i could be wrong but this could be only a temporary thing due to severe crew shortages in kalgoorlie at the moment.Admin wrote:6006. 6007 & CLF4 on 4AP1 intermodal arrived at Forrestfield before dawn with empty water and fuel tanks from Cook
You are at lot closer to the action in Kalgoorlie wn514 than me and you may very well be right also the OPY? provisions vans for Naretha and Rawlinna do not run on AP1/PA1 that may be causing problems to those people who reley on them.
So the tip is if you see AP1/PA1 with tankers get a photo it may not last.

Appears Cook fuel train now runs out of Forestfield
6007, 6006 & CLF4 ran 7PA1 QR National intermodal out of Forrestfield on February 6th with two 54,000 litre water tankers and five 60,000 odd litre fuel tankers. Looks like this is how fuel will get to Cook now is cheaper than running a dedicated train out of Kalgoorlie. Don,t know about the big pastoral leases at Naretha and Rawlinna that had their supplies taken out in OPC vans.
